Fishing Trips In My Mind

Growing up, our old barn was a treasure trove of hunting and fishing magazines left behind by my Uncle Warren. Those old magazines were from the 1930s and 1940s. Not in the best of shape, but still fun to look at the pictures and read the stories about those great fishing trips and adventures.

Fishing Trips

The magazines that I remember reading the most were Outdoor Life, Sports Afield, Field & Stream, Hunting and Fishing, and Forest and Stream. There were also a few Life and The Saturday Evening Post magazines that had some good fishing stories.

My favorite stories and pictures were about fishing on some of the large lakes in Canada. These lakes were in wilderness areas so about the only way to get to these remote lakes was to charter a float plane. I thought that that must be the grandest fishing adventure that anyone could have.

The two lakes that still stick in my mind are Great Bear Lake and Great Slave Lake. For me, these were the ultimate fishing trips in Canada.

Unfortunately, I haven’t booked one of those great fishing trips yet. I am sure that you know how it is. Life gets in the way and priorities change.

Maybe one day I will plan a Canadian fishing trip to one of those lakes. I am sure that it won’t be quite as adventuresome as my young mind imagined all those years ago.
