The Best Ice Fishing Rod depends on how you fish and what you are fishing for. If you do your fishing in some sort of shelter, be that a hut or tent then you want a shorter ice fishing rod since space is limited. If you sit out on the ice then you can fish a longer rod though 36 inches seems to be a good length.
Most of the time a medium action rod is what you need. However if you fish large or heavy ice fishing lures then you will need a heaver action rod – probably a medium heavy rod.
A good rule of thumb is, use a light rod for perch and panfish using 2 to 4 lb. test line, use a medium action one for trout, walleye, whitefish, etc. with 6 to 10 lb. test line.
